The Virginia Department of Health reported 984 new coronavirus cases Friday, bringing the state’s tally to 89,888.

At least 2,174 Virginians have died from the virus as of Friday morning, up 33 from Thursday.

Of the total cases, 86,501 are confirmed and 3,387 are probable, meaning those patients are symptomatic and have a known exposure to the illness.

Throughout the state, there have been 8,062 cases in long-term care facilities and 1,231 deaths, according to data from the VDH.

The state’s seven-day percentage of positive PCR tests held steady at 7.2%. Virginia reported 15,745 new PCR tests were performed. The state’s total now stands at 1,107,360.

There are 1,334 people currently hospitalized for COVID-19, according to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. Of those, 885 have confirmed cases and 449 are awaiting test results. So far, 11,937 COVID-19 patients have been discharged.

Here are the latest numbers for the region compared to Thursday. The large number represents the number of cases reported in each locality since the pandemic began.

Middlesex: 26 (no change); 1 death (no change)

Newport News: 1,573 (up 29); 16 deaths (no change)

Norfolk: 3,180 (up 100); 24 deaths (up 2)

Northampton: 292 (no change); 28 deaths (no change)

Poquoson: 36 (up 1); 0 deaths (no change)

Portsmouth: 1,462 (up 45); 22 deaths (no change)

Suffolk: 1,034 (up 33); 49 deaths (up 1)

Virginia Beach: 4,055 (up 76); 45 deaths (up 2)

Williamsburg: 107 (up 1); 6 deaths (no change)

York: 201 (up 8); 3 deaths (no change)

In Virginia, people older than 80 account for 4,237 cases and 1,077 deaths. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down for cases and deaths:

70-79: 4,417 cases, 548 deaths

60-69: 8,477 cases, 330 deaths

50-59: 13,029 cases, 136 deaths

40-49: 15,093 cases, 59 deaths

30-39: 16,521 cases, 18 deaths

20-29: 17,112 cases, 4 deaths

10-19: 6,943 cases, 0 deaths

0-9: 3,096 cases, 0 deaths

The VDH did not report ages for 963 cases and two deaths.

Since the pandemic began in Virginia, 45,943 women have had cases and 1,065 women have died, while 43,419 men have had cases and 1,104 men have died. Of the state tally, 526 cases don’t have a reported sex and 5 deaths don’t have a reported sex.
