UPDATED:

After seeing an explosion in new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in July, Hampton Roads has seemingly reversed course.

Many of the region’s key health metrics are now trending down.

Over the past few weeks, the region’s percent of tests coming back positive have dropped from 12.2% to 8.7%. The number of new cases each day also was cut nearly in half, from about 475 to 250 as of Wednesday.

Current hospitalizations — a statistic that generally lags behind others — also have started to decline. It is down a more modest 16%, though.
