Virginia reports 1,021 new coronavirus cases, 32 deaths Tuesday

The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,021 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, bringing the state’s tally to 121,615.

At least 2,612 Virginians have died from the virus as of Tuesday morning, an increase of 32 from Monday.

Of the total cases, 116,294 are confirmed and 5,321 are probable, meaning those patients are symptomatic and have had a known exposure to the illness.

Throughout the state, there have been 9,327 cases in long-term care facilities and 1,355 deaths, according to data from the VDH.

The state’s seven-day percentage of positive PCR tests — the common diagnostic test which detects the virus — increased from 7.4% to 7.7%.

Virginia reported 12,077 new PCR tests were performed, increasing the total to 1,593,368.

As many as 1,039 people are hospitalized for COVID-19, according to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association.

Of those, 804 have confirmed cases and 235 are awaiting test results. So far, a total of 15,199 COVID-19 patients have been discharged.

Newport News: 2,335 (up 18); 27 deaths (up 2)

Norfolk: 4,406 (up 12); 55 deaths (up 3)

Northampton: 304 (no change); 29 deaths (no change)

Poquoson: 68 (up 1); 0 deaths (no change)

Portsmouth: 2,234 (up 21); 36 deaths (up 2)

Suffolk: 1,660 (up 25); 61 deaths (no change)

Virginia Beach: 6,049 (up 21); 69 deaths (up 1)

Williamsburg: 155 (no change); 6 deaths (no change)

York: 467 (up 6); 6 deaths (no change)

In Virginia, people older than 80 account for 5,295 cases and 1,261 deaths. Here’s how the rest of the age groups break down for cases and deaths:

70-79: 5,933 cases (up 51), 660 deaths (up 8)

60-69: 11,358 cases (up 83), 407 deaths (up 5)

50-59: 17,425 cases (up 129), 180 deaths (up 4)

40-49: 19,609 cases (up 113), 72 deaths (no change)

30-39: 21,795 cases (up 134), 25 deaths (no change)

20-29: 24,350 cases (up 314), 5 deaths (no change)

10-19: 10,315 cases (up 149), 0 deaths (no change)

0-9: 4,399 cases (up 29), 0 deaths (no change)

The VDH did not report ages for 1,136 cases and two deaths.

Since the pandemic began in Virginia, 62,416 women have had cases and 1,267 women have died, while 58,432 men have had cases and 1,336 men have died. Of the state tally, 767 cases don’t have a reported sex and nine deaths don’t have a reported sex.
